 | Shumway Mansion B&B
located in Kirkland, WA. The Mansion was built in 1909 on the shore of Lake Washington for
several adult children of John Russell Shumway and Mary Clark Holland which moved from
Belchertown, MA. The children which contributed to the building of the mansion and (most
of whom) lived in it were Mary, Edward, Elizabeth, Emily, Hattie, Antionette and Carrie.
After Carrie, the last surviving member of her family and the owner of the mansion, died,
the house was used as a rest home and later as a chiropractor's office before being sold
to a developer and slated for demolition.
Richard and Salli Harris purchased the mansion (but not the property it was on) and moved
it to a new location, where it has been restored to its original condition and is now used
as a bed & breakfast and reception center, as it has been since 1985. The
award-winning Mansion is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
We welcome any of the Shumway family and descendents to visit the Mansion and enjoy its
unique B&B environment, as well as a piece of the Shumway family history.

 | Shumway Hall at
Shattuck-St. Mary's School - Faribault, MN 55021; Map. History: Horatio Gates Shumway (Peter, Peter, David, David, Duty)
married Augusta M. Johnston: "she (Augusta) inherited considerable wealth from her
father and grandfather, and among other benefactions, she erected a beautiful memorial
chapel for the Shattuck (Military) School in Faribault, MN, at a cost of over $30,000, in
memory of her deceased daughter, Eunice; in her will, she devised all her property (after
a few legacies to dependent friends and to her only living daughter) to the same
institution, for the erection of a building to be known as "Shumway Hall," and a
building for the Seabury Mission (a Theological School) to be called Johnston Hall in
memory of her father, the sum being sufficient to endow both institutions."
