Notes for Gordon Leigh Shumway

THETFORD CENTER - Gordon Leigh Shumway, 66, died May 9 at the Veterans Administration Hospital in White River Junction.

He was born June 19, 1933, in Waltham, Mass., son of Carroll and June (Small) Shumway.

He attended schools in Thetford and served four years in the U.S. Navy.

Mr. Shumway had been a resident of Thetford Center for the past 11 years. He worked for several farms, Ralston Purina and
Shepard Corporation, and for the past 30 years he worked for the U.S. Postal Service in White River Junction.

He enjoyed working around the house.

He first married Joyce Perkins in 1955. He was then married to Cheryl Bates in 1967 and then Helen Gardner in 1990.

Survivors include his wife of Thetford Center; five sons, Donald Shumway of Canaan, N.H., Michael Shumway of White River
Junction, Bradley Shumway of Thetford Center, Randy Hammond of Grantham, N.H., and Theodore Shumway of Norwich;
six daughters, Sheila Davis of Randolph, Wanda McMeans of Hartford, Shelly Richer of Canaan, Audrey Bowley of Hartland,
Valerie Stone of West Fairlee and Kelly Gardner of Thetford Center; a sister, Elaine Then of Plantation, Fla.; and several
grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by three brothers, Francis, Ernest and Walter Shumway.

There will be no services.

Contributions may be made to the Hospice Suite at the Veterans Administration Hospital in White River Junction.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Hale Funeral Home in Thetford Center.
