Charles Leroy Ruegg, 80, a resident of Boring, died Saturday, Feb. 3, in
Gresham.

Viewing will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, Feb. 9, at Bateman Carroll
Funeral Home, 520 W. Powell Blvd., Gresham.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 10, also at Bateman
Carroll. Private interment will be at Willamette National Cemetery, Portland.

He was born Oct. 3, 1926, in Nampa, Idaho, to George and Inez (Shumway) Ruegg.
He moved to Boring in the early 1930s and attended Gresham High School.
In 1944, he enlisted in the Army. He served in the United States during World
War II. He spent much of his time at Fort Ord, on Monterey Bay, Calif., but also
spent some time in Georgia. He was discharged from Fort Lewis, in Tacoma, Wash.,
having attained the rank of private first class.

On July 9, 1948, Charles married Martha Jean Luscher in Gresham. He was a log
truck driver for Koch Logging and Kozera Logging for 18 years. He later worked
as a machinist for Peerless, Columbia Trailer and Cascade Trailer for 19 years
before he retired in 1988.

Charles played semi-professional baseball in Portland for many years and was a
member of the Sandy Softball League. He later coached in the Boys Baseball
League in Sandy. He was a member of Mountain View Golf Course and was an avid
golfer, bowler, rock hound and beachcomber.

Charles was preceded in death by his brothers, Fred Ruegg, in 1983, and Jack
Ruegg, in 1989.

Survivors include his wife of Boring; sons, Nick Ruegg and Mark Ruegg, both of
Sandy; daughters, Christine James of Canby and Jennifer Ackers of Clackamas;
brother, Robert Ruegg of Colorado Springs, Colo.; sister, Betty Lindstrom of
Woodburn; 12 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
