Hubert Jay Shumway, 86, of Crossville, passed away Aug. 6, 2008. Graveside services will be held at 1:30 p.m. EDT Thursday, Aug. 14,
at East Tennessee State Cemetery on Lyons View Pike in Knoxville. The Volunteer State Honor Guard chaplain will officiate. Full
military honors will be provided by the Volunteer State Honor Guard.
Mr. Shumway was born Dec. 24, 1921, in Rochester, NY, the son of Ralph and Ruby Mae Shumway.
He was a retired truck driver and served in World War II and Korea in the U.S. Army and U.S. Navy. He was also a member of the Commonwealth of Virginia National Guard, was a life member of the VFW where he served as chaplain, the American Legion and Pearl Harbor Survivors.
Survivors include his wife, Martha Shumway of Crossville; daughter, Jacquie Rash of Florida; stepson and wife, Robert and Ellena Daniel of Crossville; grandchildren, Dawn Hart Sharp and Shannon Hart Olson; great-grandchildren, Brooke, Holli and Zoe Olson, Jason Sharp and Marshall Harrington; and brother, Ralph Shumway of Garrett, IN.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Leslie Shumway; and two brothers.
Crossville Memorial Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc. was in charge of the arrangements.
