Alice May Bennett Chapman, 85, of Marysville, died Friday, Aug.4, 2006,
at the Gables at Green Pastures.
She was a former bookkeeper for Marysville Automoti ve, DavidsonPlumbing
and Heating, and her son's business, Ron Chapman Excavati ngCompany.
A member of Pottersburg United Methodist Church since 1952, sheserv ed
as treasurer for many years. She was a former volunteer forMemorial
Hospit al of Union County Mobile Meals and for Grady MemorialHospital
hospice. She wa s a past member of Mizpah Circle of KingsDaughters.
Quite physically active, e specially during her retirement years,she
enjoyed fishing and traveling to Can ada on fishing trips withher
husband. She took up golf at the age of 70 and en joyed bowling,playing
cards and reading.
She will be especially remembered fo r her generous spirit, graceand
dignity. Her most outstanding attribute was her love and dedication to
her immediate and extended family.
She was born Dec. 3, 1920, in Indianapolis, Ind., to the late Fred and
Lottie Kipker Bennett. She also was predeceased by her husband of 50
years, Richard A. Chapman in 1988, whom she married July 23,1937; a
brother, Fritz Bennett; and a granddaughter, Barbie Jones.
She is survived by her children, Sandy (Tom) Young of Ft. Myers, F la.,
Ron (Carolyn) Chapman of Marysville, Judy (Bill) Wical and Becky(Gene)
Drumm of Bellefontaine, and Dee (Roger) Shumway of Raymond; 17
grandchildren, Vicky (Mike) Petty, Julie (Eric) Caughenbaugh,Jane
(Troy) Frazier, Dina (Rick) Saulters, Kim (Tim) Moore, Kristi(Jerry)
Eads, Kevin (Rhonda) Chapman, Keith ( Tonia) Chapman, Debbie(Bob) Day,
Pam (David) Bobb, Jeff (Jamie) Wical, Melanie Lehman, Jill(Darrin)
Miller, Mark (Nicki) Shumway, Rob (Cindy) Drumm, Chris ( Kea)Drumm and
John Drumm; 51 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; thr ee
sisters-in-law, Betty Switzer and Billie Wahlfeldt, both of Danville,
Ill., and Carol Bennett, of Wilson, N.Y.; and three nephews and five nieces.
Calling hours will be Sunday from 2 to 6 p.m. at UnderwoodFuneral Home,
where funeral services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. Burial will be at
Oakdale Cemetery beside her husband and granddaughter.
