SHUMWAY DORIS A. ‘MRS. PAPPY’ AYERS, age 90 of RD 6, Wellsboro, PA, died December 19, 1997 at Broad Acres Health
and Rehabilitation Center. She was the wife of 59 years of the late Kenneth E. "Pappy" Ayers, who died February 22, 1997.
She was born September 7, 1907 in Wellsboro, PA, the daughter of the late Lawrence and Ada Butler Shumway. She was
a lifelong resident of the Wellsboro Area and a homemaker. She was a current member of the Emmanuel Methodist Church
of Melbourne, FL, and past member of the First Baptist Church of Wellsboro, PA. She was a member of the Middle
Ridge Grange #384, the Pomona Grange and the State and National Grange.
Surviving are daughter and son-in-law, Peggy Lee and Charles Murray of Tioga, PA; sons and daughters-in-law, Laurence "Pat"
and Stella Ayers of Tioga, PA, LaVerne E. and Sally Ayers of Lawrenceville, PA and Thomas Shumway Ayers of Wellsboro, PA;
13 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Burial in Catlin Hollow Cemetery.
