Howard H. Shumway
SHUMWAY, Howard H. ? Age 85, of Roseburg, Oregon, passed away Wednesday, October 26, 2005 in a local hospital.
He was born June 3, 1920 in Eau Claire, Wisconsin to William F. and Gertrude (Sweet) Shumway. Mr. Shumway served
in the US Army as a X-ray technician during wwII. He worked as a painting contractor, furniture refinisher and was a maintenance supervisor at the Phoenix V.A. Hospital at the time of his retirement. His love of music found him directing church choirs,
singing in Barbershop Choruses, singing with his family and playing clarinet in church orchestras. He also loved cars
and had many models of those he had owned. Wilh his many surgeries and illnesses, he prayed for God?s will to be done
and was secure in the healing grace of his God. Howard was a life-long member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Beryl Shumway; two children Rod Shumway and his wife, Beth and Karen Hamstra
and her husband, Jim; two grandsons and their families and his dogs who were cherished members of his family too.
Graveside services with military honors provided by the VFW District 12 Honor Guard will take place on Monday
October 31, 2005 at 2:00 pm within the grounds of the Roseburg National Cemetery. Memorial services will follow
at Wilson?s Chapel of the Roses. Pastor Stan Beerman of the Roseburg Seventh Day Adventist Church will officiate.
