Gertrude Gibson Shumway, 85, Davenport, IA (formerly of Kansas City), passed away Sunday, August 3, 2003, at Grandview Terrace
in Davenport. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Saturday, August 9, at Christ the King Catholic Church, KCK; burial in
Resurrection Cemetery, Lenexa, KS. Friends may call Saturday morning before the Mass, beginning at 9. The family suggests
memorials to the American Red CrossWyandotte County Chapter, 1600 Washington Blvd., KCK 66102, or to the American Cancer
Society, 6700 Antioch, SMKS 66204.
Gertrude Long was born April 20, 1918, in Kansas City, KS, the daughter of Howard and Helen E. (Stanley) Long. In Gertrude's
younger years, she was a newspaper reporter. Later, she worked as an office manager for Wilson and Earnhart Architectural,
Christenson Conway and Higgins Manufacturing, retiring in 1983 from Rainbow Mental Health Center. Mrs. Shumway was a member
of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in Davenport, IA, the Professional Business Women's Assoc., Royal Neighbors of America
and volunteered for the American Red Cross in
