Avery Calvin Shumway, 91, died Oct. 29 at Lakewood Senior Living of Pratt. He was born July 3, 1914, at Turon,
the son of Jay and Lula Mae (Tillery) Shumway. He married Johanna K. Gillen on Nov. 14, 1936, at Wichita.
He was a lifetime Preston/Turon resident.
Mr. Shumway was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Pratt. Survivors include two sons,
Leon Shumway of Chickasha, Okla., and Darrell Shumway of Pratt; one daughter, Trevlyn Detmer of Ellinwood;
nine grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; six stepgreat-grandchildren; and
five great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother, Harley Shumway, and one sister, Lois Fisher.
Vigil and Rosary services will be at 8:30 p.m. today at Larrison Mortuary, Pratt. Funeral will be at 10 a.m.
Wednesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Pratt with the Rev. Gregory S. LeBlanc officiating. Burial will be at
the Turon Cemetery in Turon.
