John Shumway

NATICK, Mass. — John G. Shumway, 49, of Natick, died Tuesday, April 20, 1999, at the Boston Medical Center, in Boston, of injuries sustained when he was struck by a car in Brockton.

A resident of Natick for the past 19 years, Mr. Shumway was born and raised in Portsmouth, N.H., a son of Chandler and Germaine (Brilliant) Shumway, both of Portsmouth, N.H.

Educated in the Portsmouth School System. He was a graduate of Portsmouth High School, Class of 1967 and went on to receive a bachelor of science degree in marketing, from Senton Hall University, South Orange, N.J., Class of 1971.

At the time of his death, Mr. Shumway was a retail manager for Grossman’s Bargain Outlets in Brockton and had been employed by the company for over ten years.

Mr. Shumway was a longtime parishioner and active member of St. Patrick’s Parish in Natick.

He was the husband of Joanna S. (Rupacz) Shumway.

In addition to his wife and parents, he is survived by a son, Bryan J. Shumway of Washington, D.C.; a brother, Bruce Shumway and his wife, Susan, of Laconia, N.H.; a sister, Jackie Rice of Portsmouth, N.H.

He was the son-in-law of Barbara Rupacz of Summit, N.J., and the brother-in-law of Donna and Edward Dolan of Durham, N.C., Vicki and Jack O’Reilly of Maplewood, N.J.; also survived by many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a daughter, Allyson R. Shumway, who died in October 1997; father-in-law, Stanislaus Rupacz; and a brother-in-law, Verne Rice.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Funeral Mass in St. Patrick’s Church, Natick, Saturday at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow at St. patrick Cemetery in Natick.

Visiting hours in the John Everett & Sons Funeral Home, at Natick Common, are Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. only.
