Chandler J. Shumway

PORTSMOUTH - Chandler J. Shumway, 85, of 86 Coakley Road, died Tuesday, Sept. 13, 2005, at Portsmouth Regional Hospital.

Born in Old Town, Maine, on Sept. 17, 1919, he was the son of the late John C. and Maude (Gosline) Shumway and was a graduate of
Old Town High School.

He was employed as a chef for several local restaurants including his own diner, Lou’s Diner, in Exeter. Survivors include his son,
Bruce Shumway and wife Susan of Laconia; daughter, Jacqueline Rice of Portsmouth; daughter-in-law, Joanna Shumway of
Natick, Mass.; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Chandler was predeceased by his wife Germaine R. (Brilliant) Shumway; son, John Shumway; step-mother,
Verda M. (Roe) Shumway; son-in-law, Verne Rice; grandchildren, Craig Shumway and Allyson Shumway; brother,
William Shumway; two sisters, Gertrude Harvie and Pauline Coakley

SERVICES: Visiting hours will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the J. Verne Wood Funeral Home - Buckminster Chapel,
84 Broad St., Portsmouth. Funeral services will be at 9:30 a.m. on Friday at the funeral home. Family flowers only.
