Daryl Richard Shumway 1925 ~ 2006 ESCALANTE, UTAH - Daryl Richard Shumway, 80,
of Escalante, Utah, passed away June 10, 2006, from cancer. He was born July 2, 1925,
in Bingham, Utah, to Amos Floyd and Dica Willis Shumway. Daryl served a mission to
the Southern States. He returned and married Dicy Smith in the St George LDS Temple.
After their marriage they returned to Florida to be the first people to run the Church Ranch
Desert and he was the Branch President. He served as Bishop of the Kearns 11th Ward,
of which he was very proud of along with raising six children. They then moved to Heber
City, Utah, to start State Farm Insurance Agency. While in Heber he served as City and
County Judge for many years along with being the best fisherman in the state. Another
pride he held was Lions Club International Director and traveled to over 57 countries and
visited every state in the union. He retired to Henrieville, Utah, and after the death of his
sweetheart, who he served well. He married Mary Kazan who he dearly loved and did
not want to leave behind. In his opinion, his greatest accomplishment was his family
and writing the dissertation 'Jesus of Nazareth'. He has written many songs on his
guitar that is now silent. He is survived by his spouse, Mary Bybee Steed Kazan
Shumway; children, Nikki (Terry) Giles; Clark (Cindy) Shumway; Gloria (Robert) Davis;
Suzanne (Garn) Carlile; step-children, Stephen (Diana) Steed; Sheldon Steed;
Scott (Cindi) Steed; Samuel (Wendy) Steed; Shane (Stephanie) Steed; and Shannon
(Jenifer) Steed; 40 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters,
Floyd (Roxie) Shumway; Jean (Herber) Molyneux; Jay Shumway and Alaska(Floyd)
Richards. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Dicy; parents; son, Chris Amos
Shumway and daughter, Sheri Giles. Funeral services will be held on Saturday,
June 17, 2006, at 12:00 noon in the Escalante Stake Center. Friends may call at
the Stake Center in Escalante on Saturday from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. Burial will be
in the Henrieville Cemetery on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. Funeral Directors,
Magleby Mortuary Richfield, Salina and Manti.
