Notes for John Shumway

From "The Genealogy of the Shumway Family"- He was a solider in the
French and Indian War, as is shown by this extract from Massachusetts Records in
Boston "A Muster Roll of a detachment of men from Capt. Edward Davis Company
of Oxford Col. John Chandlers Regt that marched on the late alarm for the relief of
Fort William Henry under command of Capt. John Learned to Sheffield one hundred
and five miles out. Worcester Jan. 5,1759 (among other names were) John Shumway
and John Shumway Jr .He was 1 year old when his folks came to Oxford.
John served in the French & Indian War.[

He was a soldier in the French and Indian War, as shown in an extract from Massachusetts
Records in Boston.

PETER SHUMWAY: John Shumway Homestead, Oxford, MA

A 50 a lot drawn by Peter Shumway, 1720. 2/12/1740, Peter Shumway to his son
John, who settled there, building at the south end of the 50 a, which extended n
to the w side of Town's pond(see map link listed below); house in the field w of
Turcott's, the original house was a little w of the present one, which was built by
Josiah, son of John Shumway, although he never owned the place; 1793, John
Shumway to Phineas Dana; 1794, Phineas Dana to William Phips, who resided
here at the time of his decease; 5/30/1799, Abijah Craig, son-in-law of Phips,
to Solomon Walker; 9/23/1825, Solomon Walker to Samuel C. Butler, who owned
but a short time and sold to Otis Prince, who 10/10/1837, deeded to Alpheus Prince;
David Prince, father of Otis and Alpheus, occupied; 10/31/1845, Alpheus Prince to
Jasper Brown, whose heirs lived there for some time. (History of Oxford page 344)
