In about 1919, with the family's finances in turmoil, Josie moved with her two daughters to Oakland, California. There, they moved
in with Josie's mother in law, Katherine Martin Fenwick. Josie took care of the girls and Katherine who was now around 70 years
old. They lived mostly on Katherine's money. James continued to have financial problems and stayed in Goldfield - mostly working
in the mines until he retired soon after the depression.
