Came to Wisconsin Territory with his parents in 1838 and two years later returned to New York to complete his education at the College at Brockport. Graduated in 1844 and returned to Wisconsin to become the first township superintendent of schools for the town of Sugar Creek. Obiturary states he became a Christian about 1841-42 and joined the Free Will Baptist Church (Transferred membership from Heart Prairie to Johnstown Church in 1864) Said (obituary) to be a man of decided and positive convictions, active in social and moral reforms of the day; active and enterprising in business, honest in his dealings, truly hospitable and generous to the needy. Was Town Clerk in 1864 and Associate Supervisor in 1875 for Sugar Creek.
