Notes for Rufus Lyman Shumway

Two Men drowned in Belchertown
Lyman Shumway and a Mr Blanchard, both of Belchertown, were drowned on the afternoon of the 31st
inst., in a pond between that place and Amherst. They were fishing in company with two others and all
being under of influence of liquor, their boat was upset and the two named perished in a watery grave.
Shumway was a carpenter and leaves a wife and children in poor circumstances. Blanchard was a
silver-plater.
