We announce to our readers with sincere regret, the decease of EDWARD S. SHUMWAY,
Esquire. He died at Essex on Saturday, the 24th instant.
Mr. Shumway was a gentleman of liberal education, possessing a good mind, and
sustaining an excellent character. He was elected to the office of District Attorney in
this county, the duties of which he performed very satisfactorily until he resigned with
the intention of taking up his residence in the west. About 2 years since he removed to
Chicago, and at once acquired a large business and the confidence of the community;
which he retained undiminished until disease warned him that he was approaching the
end of his earthly career. He leaves a widow and two children as chief mourners, who
have the sympathy of a large circle of relatives and friends. Though young, he had
established the character of an honest, intelligent, kind, affable, and christian gentleman,
and an honorable lawyer.
