ELIJAH SHUMWAY, farmer, Sec. 4; P.O. Lima Center; born in Genesee Co.,
N.Y., July 31, 1812; son of Elijah and Annie SHUMWAY; the early part of
his life was spent in Genesee Co.; he came to Wisconsin in June, 1844,
locating on the farm he now owns, of 200 acres. Married Miss Laura, daughter of
Arnold and Emily LEWIS, July 2, 1840; they have eight children -

B. Ellsworth.
Mr. SHUMWAY is a strong advocate of Republican principles, and the family
are members of the Congregational church; he is one of the successful
pioneers of Rock Co.

In the 1880 US Census, Elijah Shumway (67) and his wife, Laura A. Lewis (57) were residing in
Johnstown, Rock, Wisconsin. With their parents live two married daughters, Hellen Shumway Booth (38),
and Louisa Pierce (36). George Shumway (20), Lottie Shumway (23) and Byron Shumway (17). Elijah and
his wife were were born in New York State. The sisters, Hellen and Louisa were also born in New York.
George, Lottie and Byron were born in Wisconsin. Elijah is a farmer and the two boys, George and Byron
are laborers.
Arnold Shumway (24), Charles Booth (29) and Helen J Booth (28), brother-in-law and sister
to Arnold Shumway?? also live on a farm in Johnstown, Rock, Wisconsin. Note: Helen is also listed under her parents.
This farm is valued at $4,000 and personal estate at $400. He is the first child of Elijah Shumway
and wife, Laura A. Lewis, to have been born in Wisconsin.
