DEATH OF RUFUS K SHUMWAY

Rufus K Shumway, 70, died early yesterday morning after a short but painful illness. Mr Shumway was first attacked with grip about
three weeks ago, but his illness terminated in congestion of the brain. Quiet and unobtrusive, Mr Shumway was loved by the younger people and respected by the entire community. A member of E J Griggs Grand Army post, one of the few veterans of the civil war remaining
he was one the the most faithful and useful members of the organization. He served in Co F of the 10th Massachusetts regiment. Besides
a widow, there are two daughters, Mrs C H Dimond of Bridgeport, Ct., and Mrs Charles Little of Holyoke, and a grandchild, the Daughter of Mrs Dimond. A brother, David R Shumway of Belchertown and a sister, Mrs Jane Atwood of Holyoke, remaim alone of this once large
family circle. The funeral will be held tomorrow at 2 at the home. Rev J B Atkins officiating. The Grand Army men will act as escort and
some members of the post as bearers. Mr Shumway lost his only son, Rufus K Shumway jr., about two weeks ago, thus leaving his
widow, Mrs Eliza Shumway alone in the home.
