In the 1870 US Census, Samuel Shumway (75) and his second wife, Mary C. Chapin (66) are residing
in Whitehall, Washington, New York. The couple live with Samuel's daughter, from his first marriage,
Elizabeth Cordelia Shumway (44) amd her husband, James Harvey Hooker Park (54). The Park's
home is valued at $20,000 and his personal estate at $6,000. Samuel Shumway's personal estate is
valued at $8,000. James Park is in the dry goods business and Samuel Shumway is a physician. In addition,
Samuel Shumway has a grandson, also named James Park (21) residing in the household. James is
a clerk in the store. Samuel's and James family members were all born in New York State.
Also a servant girl, named Mary Casiday (20) is living in the household. She was born in Canada.
