Marriage to Esther Hoar listed in records of both Brimfield and
Sturbridge, MA.

Brimfield formed in 1716, Sturbridge formed in 1738 so marriage most
likely properly listed as Brimfield, MA

His name appears as Lieut. in a roll of Capt. Joseph Cheney's Co., Co l.
John Chandler's Reg't, showing he entered service 11 Aug 1757; marched
for relief of Ft. William Henry, 180 miles, 15 days service 1 shilling 4d.

His birthplace was Boxford, Massachusetts, but his parents removed to Oxford,
Massachusetts, in 1713, he removed to Sturbridge and took up land on what was
later known as "Shumway Hill" being admitted into partnership with the
original grantees after the grant was made to 42 petitioners Sept. 3,
1729; his lot was number 44; he is said to have lived at first between
two large rocks, putting a roof over the rocks; on this roof he could
frequently hear the sound of prowling wolves during the night; in this
locality all his children were born; he filled several official town
positions, and was widely respected; at a meeting of the town Oct. 14,
1741, a committee was chosen "to let out the room [in church] convenient
size for the pews" ; there was sufficient room for eighteen and each lot
was given to the head of a family, he to build the pew and occupy it with
his family during his natural life and the widow, should she succeed him;
at her decease the pew was to revert back to the town by the payment of
the original cost to the estate; the committee reported Feb. 9, 1742:
Moses Marcey had first choice, * * * David Shumway ninth choice;
