Edwin Drew Shumway died peacefully at his daughter Amanda's home in Laveen
Dec. 11, 2006 surrounded by family members.
Drew was born in Snowflake April 11, 1932. He is the son of V. Rex
Shumway and Elizabeth Solomon. Drew grew up in Taylor, graduating from
Snowflake High School in 1951. He served a two-year mission for The Church
of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Fresno, Calif. He graduated from
Brigham Young University in 1957 with a degree in Animal Husbandry. He
married Joan Randall in the Mesa, Arizona Temple in 1959. They moved to
Holbrook in 1961 and he made a career of a small town insurance agency so
he could pursue his passion of working as a farmer and cattle rancher in
his spare time. He had a deep and abiding love for his Savior, Jesus
Christ, and enjoyed serving others and fulfilling his church callings.
Drew's greatest joy in life was his family.
He is survived by his dear wife of 47 years, Joan Randall and their
9 children, Ann (Aaron) Manwill, Marilyn (Brad) Mitchell, Beth (Scott)
Self, David (Debbie) Shumway, Raymond (Laura) Shumway, Nancy (Danny)
Davis, Julie (Clint) Allred, Susan (Royce) Munroe, and Amanda (Ben)
Mitsuda. He is also survived by his siblings, Ann (George) Woods of Mesa,
Shirley (Carl) Cole of Taylor, Dale (Naomi) Shumway of Tempe, Pete
(Loretta) Shumway of Taylor, Lane (Mary Lynn) Shumway of Hurricane, Utah,
and Mary Louise (Wesley) Bowman of Colonial Dublan, Chihuahua, Mexico. He
was the proud grandfather of 40 grandchildren.
Burial will be at the Taylor Cemetery.
