Notes for Kermit Hymas Shumway

PRESTON -- Kermit Hymas Shumway, 93, left this life as a result of an accident while working in the hay field on June 29, 2005. Kermit \was born to Charles Mendon and Caroline Hymas Shumway on Dec. 31, 1911, in Treasureton, Idaho. He was a part of a happy and
loving family, having three sisters and five brothers, now all deceased: Hattie Neeley, Earl Hymas, Quentin Hymas,
Anona Huntsman, Nettie Nielsen, Andrew Benjamin, Dean Hymas and Charles Hymas.

Kermit spent his early years in Treasureton. He attended school there until his senior year of high school when he went to Preston.
It was there that he met his eternal sweetheart, Margret Mary Palmer. They were married in the Logan LDS Temple on Feb. 24, 1932.
To this union came five daughters and one son, Joan Rowley, Sharon (Walter) Knapp, Kathy (Darvel) Gregory, Utahna (Neldon)
Nielsen, Brad (Janice) Shumway and Kerma (Richard) Hill. They were wonderful parents and great examples to all who knew them.
Kermit and Margret now have 44 grandchildren, 93 great-grandchildren and 22 great-great-grandchildren. Margret preceded him in
death on May 25, 1993. He was also preceded in death by two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Being honest, dependable, hard-working and faithful were important values to Kermit and he taught his family these things by
consistent example as well as by precept. Kermit served his community in various ways including time as president of the
Treasureton Irrigation Company and on the board of Cottonwood Grazing. He served in many varied church positions including
stake Sunday School counselor, bishop's counselor and bishop. His favorite position has been husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and great-great-grandfather; he seldom said goodbye in person or on the phone without adding, "You know family
is most important." He loved holding his "little ones" for a rock-a-bye or a story and would make sure that his "big ones" knew he
believed they could succeed at whatever was their current concern. He loved music, especially if it was performed by those he l
oved. He was a quiet man -- all around him knew that if he spoke it was worth paying attention; he believed we were given two
ears and only one mouth for a reason. Right up to the moment he died, he was working and contributing all he could.

His funeral services will be held at noon on Tuesday, July 5, at the North Stake Center, 310 N. State in Preston, Idaho, with
Bishop Ronnie Keller conducting. A viewing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday at Webb Funeral Home and from10:30 to
11:30 a.m. on Tuesday at the church. Interment will be in the Franklin Cemetery.
