Marjorie Shumway passed away on July 8, 2006 at 89 years of age. Marjorie was born and reared in
Mesa, Arizona. She was the second child of Elijah Gill Shumway and Sarah Elizabeth Willis.
Marjorie is survived by her older sister, Bessie Beck of Phoenix and her brother, E. Gene Shumway
of Provo, Utah.

After graduating from Mesa Union High School in 1934, Marjorie attended Arizona State Teacher's College
in Tempe for a year, followed by Lambson Business College, in Phoenix, where she was trained as a
stenographer. After a few years of Government service in Safford, Window Rock and Williams Field, Marjorie
joined the U. S. Army as a member of the Women's Army Corps, where she attained the rank of Technical Sergeant. During WWII, she served in London (while it was being heavily bombed,) Paris and Nurenberg, where she
transcribed court reports at the War Crimes Trials in N urenberg. After the war, she transcribed for the Heathcoat
Co. in Los Angeles for many years.

A memorial service with full military honors will be held at the Cave Creek National Cemetery on Thursday,
July 13 at 10:30 a.m. The cemetery is located at 23029 N. Cave Creek Road, Phoenix, Ariz. 85024.
