A muster roll (Mass. Records at Boston) of Capt. John Learned's Company, February 17,1757,
has the name of Jeremiah Shumway from Oxford, as Corporal, Sept. 24. This connects him with
the French and Indian War.He was in the French & Indian War. According to the will of his parents
he received the home farm at Oxford, Mass. They had 12 children. I believe Jeremiah and Experience
lived and died on the home farm. Several of the children migrated west or at least West to them.
The son Benjamin migrated to Northwest Massachusetts I believe he and his wife died there, but a son
Parley Putnam Shumway migrated to Calhoun Co., Michigan
Settled at Itheil T. Johnson Place, H.185, with his father; remained there until 1755: exchanged farms
with his brother-in-law; Isaac Larned, Jr., and removed to the Shumway Place ** near the site of the
Johnson house H.64. This he sold in 1773 to his son Peter and bought H.172 on Long Hill, where he died.

Jeremiah Shumway - Very little is known of Jeremiah Shumway beyond the facts that he was
born in Boxford, Massachusetts, that he removed to Oxford in 1713, with his father, who became one
of the pioneer settlers of the town; a Muster Roll (Mass. Records at Boston) of Capt. John
Learned's Company, Feb. 17, 1757, has the name of Jeremiah Shumway from Oxford,
Corporal, Sep. 24. This connects him with the French and Indian War.
