llen lived is still standing in 1990. It is located on the corner of Rt 28 and Lower Toddsville
Road in Otsego County, NY. The mill where he worked as a master machinist was located
at the opposite end and side of Lower Toddsville Road.
The Union Cotton Mill was once owned by a man named Rufus Steere. Rufus also owned
a general store located north of the mill. The general store was removed to Cooperstown.

He served as an Exhorter for the M.E. Church under Rev. Wells of the Oneida Conference.
In the 1870 US Census, Allen Dewitt Shumway (52) and his wife, Eunice Weagar (45), are
living in Toddsville, Otsego, New York. Freddie Shumway (17), Van Ness Shumway (15),
Nellie Eunice Shumway (10), Grace Adeline Shumway (7) and Mabel Shumway (4) complete
the Shumway Household.
He died in Massachusetts while visiting or residing with his daughter Emily.
