On the 13th inst, a young man, residing in Monkton, by the name of Shumway, subjects to fits, rose early in the morning and
made a fire and while standing before it, he was taken by a fit and fell into the fire, where he remained for several minutes
before he was discovered. His face, one arm and hand and several places on his body, was badly burnt, so much so that his life
was at first dispared of, but hopes are now entertained of his recovery

In the 1850 US Census. Nathan Shumway (46) was living in Monkton, Addison,
Vermont. He is a carpenter & joiner by trade. He resides with Phebe Bacon (61)
and Hannah Burrell (59) is a house valued at $800. Phebe was born in New York,
Hannah in Massachusetts and Nathan in Vermont.
In the 1860 US Census. Nathan Shumway (56) was living in Monkton, Addison,
Vermont. He resides with the Isaac Doten (69) and Mera Doten (72) family.
