His mother died when he was only six and Charles was sent to live with an aunt until he was sixteen,
then he entered the Ives Seminary, in Antwerp, NY where he studied until lack of funds compelled
him to seek a business situation in Watertown. Two years later he returned to his studies.
Graduated the Medical Department of the University at Buffalo 2-25-1880. established the
Medical and Surgical Institute in Harrisburg, PA- A.A. Shumway
