with Gen. Sheridan. He was taken sick Winchester and sent hospital. Later was taken to
Baltimore where he died. He was brought home to Philadelphia, NY for burial.]

In the 1850 US census, Gilbert Shumway (24) is listed as living with Timothy Rawson, a blacksmith,
and his wife and two daughters. Gilbert along with 3 other young men are listed as living with
the Rawson's. Gibert and one other lad are carriage makers. The other young men are blacksmiths
living in Le Ray, Jefferson, New York
