Notes for Harold Lynton Shumway

Resides at 43 Grove St, Greenfield, Massachusetts on June 5, 1918. He is employed by the Greenfield
Tap and Die Corporation of Greenfield.

Harold L. Shumway, 95, formerly of 42 Adams Road, died Wednesday in a local nursing home.

He retired in 1962 as a statistician for Esleck Paper Co. in Montague's Turners Falls section. He worked earlier at Greenfield
Tap & Die Corp.

Born in Lebanon Springs, N.Y., he attended Greenfield schools. He was a 1916 graduate of Greenfield High School.

While at GHS, he played violin in the orchestra and pitched on the varsity baseball team.

He kept his interest in music and baseball. He was concertmaster (first violin) of the Greenfield Symphony in the 1920s and early 1930s.

He was also the treasurer of the former Greenfield Orchestral Society, and played in the dance band at the former Weldon Hotel.

He was a Boston Red Sox fan until his death.

His wife, the former Dorothy Davis, died in 1988.

He leaves several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

The funeral will be Saturday morning at McCarthy Funeral Home, with burial in the afternoon at Evergreen Cemetery in
Lebanon Springs, N.Y. There are no calling hours.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army (attention of Capt. Thomas Perks), 72 Chapman St., Greenfield, 01301.
