The Shumway Root Cellar




Notes for Nathan Shumway

Nathan was a soldier in the French and Indian War and is shown on an extract
from the Mass. Records at Boston (Roll 1757, pg 518) "A Muster Roll of a detachment
of men from Capt. Edward Davis Company of Oxford Col John Chandlers Regt. that
marched on the late alarm for the relief of Fort William Henry under the command
of E. Davis as their Capt who marched from Oxford to Sheffield being one hundred
and five miles out. (Among other names is Nathan Shumway, Worcester 1759)

His occupation was a farmer, after the birth of his first three children, he moved
to Belchertown, probably about 1771 and cleared land there,
