This town was settled by sons of Peter Shumway II. The first map is an area known as Shumway Hill and is located about one mile from Old Sturbridge Village. The next map is the location of the old village cemetery. Many Shumways are buried in this cemetery, which is located near the commons and across the driveway from the Publick House. Location of Abner Shumway's (1748 - 1813) grave in Lebanon Springs, NY. The grave is in the older section of the cemetery and is surrounded by huge evergreen trees. Several generations of the family are also in this cemetery. This is the location of the BOOGE-TORREY House. This house was built by Abner Shumway in 1786. Frederick's father, Edwin, is also buried there. Within the Toddsville map on the lower right you will find a label for the home of A. D. Shumway. Allen worked in the Union Cotton Mill which was located across the stream for his home. Also note that across the road from the Union Cotton Mill was a general store and post office operated by a man named Rufus Steere. This store was dismantled and moved to the "Farmer's Museum" in Cooperstown. It is now part of the village at the museum and operated as the store would have looked in the mid-1800s.
