Herbert R. Shumway and wife Celia A. homesteaded in Balsam Township, Minnesota in early 1900's. There was also a homestead claim by Florence Shumway in the township. I would like more information about these families. I work at the Savanna Portage State Park north of McGregor, Minnesota. One of the lakes in our park is named for the Shumway family. I am working on a history of the park, and would like to include more than just names in their story. I think Herbert was a Civil War veteran, they left the area by 1913 and no one here remembers much about them. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
