I have been trying to trace my g-g-grandfather John Woolever, b. abt 1791 in Pa., to his origin & parents, etc., & in the process have run across two possible surnames for John's second wife Sarah. We were leaning towards "Shermer", until we saw your family tree, & the name "Shumway". We were aware of the "Shumway" name, but had nothing to go on but rumor & the possibility of an incorrect spelling for "Shermer", which was not uncommon for those times. We knew that our John had fathered a child, Deo J., by his second wife Sarah, & within the last year, I had found the birth record of an Angela (as I recall) Woolever born to them in abt. 1856. This came as a surprise to me because she was not listed on John's probate in Bath, NY as was Deo J. & the rest of the children. Sarah signed this document!! I realize that this will not lead me any closer to John's "beginnings", because your family tree indicated that you didn't have the Woolever first name, but at least it will lead to filling in some gaps for you. I have been to Deo J's gravesite in the Canisteo Hillside Cemetery, & also have a copy of his obituary, & how he died. I hope that you will get back to me with how I can fill in the spaces for you, & who knows, possibly you may have some information on John W. which I don't have, even though you didn't have his first name. I can hope so! Best Regards, Jerry Woolever
